Report
of the First Official Meeting
of the True Weather Fans
Sunday, October 15th, 2000
Ville LaSalle, Quebec (Canada)
For the ones who were not present at the meeting, here's how this beautiful afternoon went.
In addition to me and Shattercone, were present:
Alain Boily, Alert_meteo, Do and her husband, Jean-Francois, Marc-Andre, Tahoe, Toutvent, Zapdos
On the 70 members of the True Weather Fans, there are only about fifteen which lives in the Montreal area, and on this number, 8 weather fans came, which is not so bad!
As we are not a snob and closed club, we was pleased to meet Jean-Francois, who is a friend of Gaetan (Shattercone) passionate about astronomy and weather! :-)
We also enjoy the presence of a visitor from Quebec, Alert_meteo, who made the travel just to be with us! And fortunately that he came because his weather knowledge largely enriched the meeting.
The Preparation
In theory, the meeting was scedule from 1h pm to 4h pm at Ville LaSalle. But certain people arrived later or left earlier. I appreciated that well. That made this meeting like "meets between buddies".
About the meeting, I arrived the first and I installed everything. Shattercone was to help me but was delayed because of a trouble with the motor of his "car"... heu... forgiveness, I want to say: car!! (I joke)
The coffee was thus made wait but I quickly was in good company with Jean-Francois, Alain and Manon (Toutvent). Alain and Manon are among most former and faithful visitors of my site.
About the look of the place, well... it was a church basement! eheh But a TV was showing images that I took during the July 5th, 1999 thunderstorms, and some TV reports on me and my site. I had brought a portfolio in which was printed a history of my site, various statistics, articles of magazine and the 725 images of the Bew collection! Also, in demonstration, I had my lightning detector and my weather radio with me.
Outstanding Facts
So, what we have talking about? Rain... weather... no, not good weather, in fact, we have talking about bad weather, very bad weather! And it was really cool!
I must say that for this first meeting, we had envisaged nothing; we just wanted to meet and discuss, and about that, it was a success.
Tahoe has brough with jim his little family. His little boy is a little afraid by thunderstorms and rain. I hope that during the next storm, ihe will remember this meeting and will be a little less scary
I also found that Zapdos works at the Centre de la Nature Observatory, near my home in Laval. Surely I will visit him some day. I'm also passionate about stars and astronomy!
Marc-Andre was rather quiet but very friendly. One of the youngest member present. This meeting in a church basement must be far away of the "raves" or party that I surely have with his friends, but I hope that he appreciate his afternoon. He witness the may 24th, 2000 thunderstorms and had a very close view of it, the lucky one!
Gaetan show us a poster made from his mammatus photograph; beautiful! A wonderful souvenir!! I thank him for his help, the room, the coffee, etc!
Alert_meteo has shared with us his weather knowledge. Not only he made the travel from Quebec to be with us, but he even has prepared a small presentation in which he explained the thunderstorms formation. It was extremely interesting! I learn many things!
It was also a pleasure of meeting (finally!) another of my more faithful visitors, Do (shy-ann on Yahoo!Club)! As friendly that I imagined her, just like her husband who accompanied her. In the "bambinos" over the head, she didn't bring its photographs this time but will bring them next meeting.
Alain and Manon had photographs to show us, Alert_meteo also.
About photographs, I have also made a little speach to explain how taking pictures of lightning (I had brough my camera with me).
So this is it, we have discussed, we have laughed, we shown many things to each other, and it was very pleasant! We already have ideas for the next meeting, but we'll talk about that later.
