Report
of the Second Official Meeting
of the True Weather Fans

discussion sur les phenomenes meteo

Saturday, May 26th, 2001
Environment Canada
Ville St-Laurent, Quebec (Canada)

For the ones who were not present at the meeting, here's how this beautiful afternoon went.

In addition to me and René Héroux, were present:

Alerte_meteo, Do, Florient, Jean-François, Oragesperance, Shattercone, Twistian, Tahoe and his childrens, Wackogriffin and also two radio amateurs friends of René Héroux (I forgot their names, sorry).

Little deception, not less than 10 peoples that were suppose to come never present themselves. Nevertheless, we are on a free country and we had a lot of fun anyway. :-)

René Héroux shown us the Environment Canada offices. From left to right on the picture: René Héroux, Twistian, Tahoe (his childrens), Alerte_meteo, Oragesperance, Jean-François, Do and a small part of Shattercone! :-))

The Preparation

The meeting was from 1pm to 4pm at the Environment Canada office at Ville St-Laurent, on the Montreal island. René Héroux let us used a great conference room for the occasion, and also a television and a video tape recorder.

Note that this exact same day, the french part of my site was celebrating his 5 years old!

About the room, it was actually a conference room in which were exposed some weather instruments and one kind of giant barometer (probably ready for the Tornado Alley!). I bring back the video I had taped during the July 5th, 1999 storm including some TV reports about my site, and also a binder in which was printed different statistics, newspaper articles and the 725 images of the Bew! collection! Also, as a demo, I brought my lightning detector and my Pet tornado!

Outstanding facts

René started the meeting, after, I continued. I explained a bit what is my site to two new radio amateurs friends that didn't have their first visit on my site and I talked about some weather facts.

René Héroux was suppose to be an observer (his own will), but what can we say... when we love weather, we do! And as he was the expert of the place, he was pleased to answer our questions and intervened a couple of times. It was really interesting!

The first part of the meeting was to discuss together, and after, the visit of the Environment Canada offices. We were lucky this day because we had the Expert in radars of the place that was working. He made us familiarized with all the data processing instruments of weather prevision. René was our guide.

After the visit, we came back in the conference room were I presented an uncutted version of the St-Stanislas tornado (July 11th, 1996). I also showed my lightning detector.

Alerte_meteo
, who came from Quebec city exclusively for our meeting, teached us the formation of thunderstorms, with drawings as examples, for about 15 minutes! Thanks it was very instructive and interesting!

Do and Oragesperance brought some great pictures of clouds and thunderstorms, whereas Florient showed us a very interesting video tape of a swirl that he taped during a thunderstorm, and a funny filament looking like a small "funnel cloud"...He had other ones but we were running out of time! Keep it for the next meeting.

Tahoe had bring back his little family with him. His childrens were all very calm and his old one, a real fan of my site who's chasing the webcams with daddy!

Gaetan brought back his beautiful mammatus picture and I noticed that Twistian was wearing his "stormchaser" t-shirt.

So, it was a second meeting very instructive and I wish that we will be more for the next official one, which could be at the end of August. Until there, we will surely live some great adventures with Mother of Nature...

I can't wait!
