The greeting
I little frustration first, I must say: Montreal repairs their streets these days, and it was this Saturday, on the street facing the Planetarium... all the streets around were blocked, then, to go and to park the car, it was not easy! Let us say that me and my girlfriend Valindo did not have Montreal in our heart this afternoon!...
Fortunately, everything went fine thereafter. Why the Planetarium? Firstly, because it's there that we found a room to accomodate us, thanks to Daniel and Shattercone. And secondly, because these days the Planetarium presented the show "Changements Climatique" (Climatic Changes).
So, arrived at 3h15pm, we are welcomed by Daniel, Shattercone (Gaetan) and his friend Messierman1_2001 (Jean-François). Eolienne and her friend Martin hear "Bewindo" so come towards us to met, then we go prepare the room a little.
The "Changements Climatique" show
3h45pm, the "Changements Climatique" show will start. Do (Dominique) arrived, accompagnied by Tahoe (Alain) and Carole. The show, multi-media, is very interesting. It begins with a starry sky, clouds, a storm then a tornado. The screen is the immense dome above our heads. The projector is a sophisticated apparatus called the "planétaire" (planetar), from where came the name of the place, Planetarium.
After the show, which sensitizes us a little with the serious climatic changes caused by the Man, I mentioned to Daniel that we all know what it would be necessary to do to save the environment... but it is difficult to change the practices of all the human race of the Earth at the same time, alas...
In a word, join us after the show Tornade5 (Stéphane), Oragesperance (Patrick) and BartMax (Maxime), which replace his twin brother who couldn't be there!! Situation a little strange, we had a beautiful example of the utility of the clone among us!! Bartmax had a little fears before coming to the meeting. He thought that we all would be too serious scientific and "nerds"... mmff... mmpphh... MMMFFHA ha ha ha ha!! :-) He was mistaken!! With his great relief.
Behind the scenes of the Planetarium
5h15pm, Daniel makes us visit the "behind the scene" of the Planetarium. Do understood well the significance of "behind the scene" when we entered a narrow corridor... hello the claustrophobics!
5h35pm approximately, we are back to the room. Everybody takes note of the agenda (an innovation), an agenda which will be respected during all the metting. It was very helpful!
The outstanding facts of the meeting
Right before the meeting, Daniel makes us the demonstration of an electronic station weather then a small "magic" trick to show us why the sky is blue and the sun orange...
The official meeting then proceeded from 5h50pm to 8h15pm. We accelerated the step because of the famished bellies, but it would have taken us more time.
|
|
That's me, immediately after Daniel presented the electronic station weather to us (which we see on the photograph) and does a small trick to show us why the sky is blue...
|
We initially made a small survey in order to be presented, then we made a return over the season. The discussion has just begun, here is a new member shy because he was late: Robby (Christophe). Very likealy and interesting, he easily mixed with the conversation thereafter.
The discussion then related to the Bew calling network! that was born at the beginning of the summer to facilitate storm chasing. We explained to new members the concept, then it was agreed that it had proven reliable and will be back the next summer.
After having given our tricks and having answered some questions concerning storm chasing, I presented (2 times) on a giant screen in front of the room the integral video of the St-Stanislas tornado of 1996 (a little gift to Shattercone).
|
Shattercone was so happy after I presented the video of the St-Stanislas tornado that he tried to took my picture...
|
|
We then presented the interview which I gave to Meteomedia this summer then the one given by Shattercone to RDI. Shattercone then spoke to us about his site and submitted us a report on the tornadoes which have occurred in Canada and the United States this season (less tornadoes than normally in both cases).
Then it was Do's turn, who gave us some tricks to find beautiful images when we make virtual tornado chasing on Bew!.
Video footages
The meeting continued with the presentation of a video footage of one of my last summer storm chases in company of Valindo. I must say to you... we made in on purpose to choose the funniest moments, to show you that we do also that to have pleasure!
I presented others videos a little more dramatic thereafter, people who put their life in danger to capture beautiful images...
The winner
Then, it was the so much awaited moment: revealing the name of the winner of the 2001 Lucky Webcam contest. It was Do, who received two beautiful prices: a life subscription to the Video Footages (MPEG) section of Bew!, then an album with 8 of the best pictures I took of the 2001 season in format 8x10 with the signature "Bewindo" in the back.

|
Do has just learned that she's the winner of the 2001 Lucky Webcam contest...
|
The meeting ended by the taking of photographs. Me, Valindo, Eolienne, Martin, BartMax, Do, Tahoe and Carole continued the discussion at the Score restaurant of the Sherbrooke boulevard.
In short, it was one of the most successful meetings until now. Everyone seems to have appreciated their meeting.
The next time, we will take care to have more time in front of us.
Éric Tourangeau (Bewindo)
